This gallery contains a few page mockups from my upcoming book, Portraits of Eve: Women of Color Share Their Body/Soul Conversations, to be published early, 2010. The book is a collection of semi-nude and nude images accompanied by personal statements from the sixty participants. They are portraits of external and internal realities; an admittedly incomplete exploration of the impact of ethnicity, culture, values, and life experiences on the body image and self-esteem of women of color across a range of ages, body types, and ethnicities.

The participants in the project have variously described the experience of being photographed nude as liberating, empowering, and healing. The majority of them had never been nude in front of a camera before. I’ve been fascinated, inspired, and humbled by the women that I’ve photographed for this project and I feel honored to have been allowed to contribute to their spiritual experience of body acceptance and self-expression.
